We are looking to recruit two people with experience of and/or understanding of the role of the independent advocate. Ideally, you will have experience of working with adults at risk of harm or exploitation; an awareness of the needs of those affected by mental health problems or mental disorder and an understanding of relevant legislation.
You must be a good communicator and have excellent listening skills as these are key to the role of an Independent Advocate. You must be computer literate and able to work on one’s own initiative and also have the capacity to work as part of a team. It is essential you have a full driving licence and access to independent transport.
These posts are to meet the advocacy requirements of clients across the spectrum of referrals. Such referrals include those from all aspects of NHS and Council services, including GP and Acute health care, education, mental health and learning disability, child & adult protection, domestic abuse; we also receive many self-referrals and requests for support from carers and other third sector organisations.
Dumfries and Galloway Advocacy Service provides Individual and Collective Advocacy which is free, independent and confidential to adults aged 18 and over across the Region.
Salary: (£16,873 pro rata) £9,576
(These posts are paid above the Real Living Wage)
Duration of Posts: One Year
(It is hoped the posts will continue after this time but are dependent on funding).

Post One: Job Ref IA01 - Monday – Wednesday 9am-4pm
Post Two: Job Ref IA02 - Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9am-4pm
